The business model of the big golf retailers has failed golfers.  Their goal is to sell you the “latest and greatest”, as quickly as possible, and get you out of the store.  The have hundreds of thousands, maybe millions of dollars in stock golf equipment inventory, and need to sell it.  They employ inexperienced sales people and teach them to sell golf clubs as quickly as possible.  I’ve even been told that at a “local retailer” the sales people are taught that if they spend more than 20 minutes with you, they had better sell you something in addition to what you came in looking for.  The last thing they want to do is spend time custom fitting you and help you get the most out of your game.  They need to sell 10 drivers an hour, not one, and certainly not custom fitted and tailored to your needs.

Over the last few years, golf equipment manufacturers have begun offering state-of-the-art golf clubs with terrific custom options and premium after-market shafts.  Their R&D departments are making great strides to help golfers of all abilities play better golf.  Which is great, except that the average golfer doesn’t have access to test this equipment and get fitted properly by a qualified professional.  The big retailers simply can’t and won’t hire qualified fitting professionals and take the time to fit you properly.
